Stainless steel mirror finish
Stainless Steel Mirror finishes are highly reflective and created by polishing the stainless steel. The polishing process enhances appearance and consistency, making cleaning easier. It also masks the after-effects of welding and hides surface damage.
Mirror finish (No.8, #8) is created by treating the surface with a series of progressively finer abrasives. Alternatively, a special rolling procedure is used which can simulate the appearance of mechanical abrasion. For this stage, it is essential to remove deep scratches as any surface defects will be very noticeable on the finished product. Then treated with 800-1200 grit as finer polish to form “super mirror finish”.
Common applications include:
- Mirrors
- Intersection blind spot
- Ornamental trim
- Clean rooms
- Column covers
- Wall panels
- Reflectors

To achieve mirror finish in Stainless steel,
- The raw material substrate must be from the best steel mills in the world to avoid problems with pits and pinholes.
- One of the biggest things is not to rush through the polishing steps.
- Make sure every line from the previous operation has been taken out before you continue to the next step. If you go 90 degrees to the last operation you will be able to see the lines you have not taken out yet.
- Don’t put too much pressure on your tool. We found that too much downward pressure is counterproductive. It does not get the lines out faster! It actually creates larger grain lines forcing you to back up a polishing step or two just to get the grain out (It also wears a belt out prematurely).
All Stainless Steel steel sheet and coil meet Australian and New Zealand Standard – AS/NZS 1365.
